‘K L A N G c o ll e c t i v e’ is the name on which musicians and partners Sim Van Thienen and Annelies Van Gramberen present their musical projects. This brand new, hybrid ensemble combines a great musical ‘Wanderlust’ with a genuine organic approach to music and sound. Their creations, in whom the borders between musical genres fade, embody both a refreshing musical experience and an impeccable quality of performance.

D O W L N D R A K E // In Darkness Let Me Dwell

‘English renaissance and 70’s folk music meet in compelling cross-over performance’. D O W L N D R A K E is an adventurous musical journey that leads the audience along dark trails, towards the obscure places of the human soul.

Despite the gap of 4 centuries lying between John Dowland (1563-1626) and Nick Drake (1948-1974), both artists show remarkable similarities. Not only were they English composer, guitarist/luitist and singer-songwriter (so to speak), also both their oeuvre is drenched with the same main theme: pain, desire and desolation.

The songs of these ‘knights of melancholy’ are the starting point for an interesting musical trip. Annelies and Sim bring them to life, both in a wonderfully familiar way, and in a more unraveled, deconstructed way, crafting them into new compositions. With vocal and instrumental loops, electronica and an arsenal of guitars a multi layered tapestry of sound is created on which Annelies weaves with her pure voice to add vibrance to the songs. The modified, artificial characteristics of the electronica contrast beautifully with the natural sound of voice and acoustic guitar. Together they form a refreshing and surprisingly smooth blend.
